Lagos Accountant Lands In Kirikiri Over Alleged ₦200 Million Company Theft

A Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja has ordered the remand of a chartered accountant, Oguibe Promise Nwachukwu, in the Kirikiri Correctional Centre over allegations of stealing ₦200 million belonging to his former employer, Travelstar Web Logistics Limited.
According to Ireporter Online, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned Nwachukwu and his firm, Wifamapp Royalty Global Limited, on a 13-count charge bordering on stealing, criminal conversion, and breach of trust. The charges alleged that the accountant misappropriated company funds between 2018 and 2020.
Court documents revealed that one of the charges accused Nwachukwu of dishonestly converting $36,000 (approximately ₦54 million) in 2020, while another alleged that between January and July 2018, he also converted $156,000 (about ₦234 million) belonging to the same company.
The EFCC, in its statement, stated that the offences contravene Sections 280(1)(b), (2)(f), and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
During the court proceedings, the defendant pleaded not guilty to all 13 counts. Prosecution counsel A.A. Usman requested that the court set a trial date and remand the defendant in EFCC custody pending trial. However, defence counsel, Kelvin C. Uzozie, informed the court that a bail application had already been submitted and appealed that his client be kept in EFCC custody instead of a correctional facility.
After listening to both sides, Justice Rahmon Oshodi adjourned the case to October 17, 2025, for the hearing of the bail application and ordered that Nwachukwu be remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending the court’s decision on his bail.
“The defendant shall remain in custody until the bail hearing is decided,” Justice Oshodi ruled.
