NDLEA Cracks Down: Five Global Drug Lords Bag 21 Years Jail Term In Lagos

According to Ireporter Online, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has successfully secured the conviction of five members of an international drug trafficking syndicate involved in the smuggling of cocaine, tramadol, and cannabis through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos. The convicted individuals, who belonged to two separate international organized criminal groups, received a combined sentence of 21 years imprisonment after being found guilty by the Federal High Court in Lagos.

Reports indicate that the first group, comprising Olasupo Michael Oladimeji, Muaezee Ademola Ogunbiyi, and Sola Adegoke, were apprehended following the interception of 17.9 kilograms of cocaine concealed in textile materials and local charms destined for Sydney, Australia, at the MMIA export shed on August 26, 2025. During the course of investigation, NDLEA operatives recovered 20.5 kilograms of Canadian Loud, a potent strain of cannabis, from Ogunbiyi’s residence in Lekki, along with a black Range Rover SUV found at Adegoke’s home in Ikeja GRA.

The trio were subsequently arraigned on a five-count charge before Justice Musa Kakaki of the Federal High Court, Lagos, under charge number FHC/L/925C/2025, and they all pleaded guilty. On October 31, 2025, Justice Kakaki sentenced each of them to five years imprisonment, totaling 15 years collectively, with no option of fine. The court also ordered the forfeiture of the seized Range Rover and a Toyota Venza car to the Federal Government.

In a similar development, another drug syndicate involving Obunike Joseph Obichukwu and Uzorchukwu Godspower Chukwurah was busted by NDLEA officers after 2.6 kilograms of cocaine and 27.9 kilograms of tramadol hidden in motor spare parts were intercepted at the Lagos airport on July 19, 2025. Following a thorough investigation, the duo were arraigned before Justice Ambrose Lewis-Allagoa of the Federal High Court, Lagos, under charge number FHC/L/980C/2025, where they also pleaded guilty.

On November 4, 2025, both men were convicted and sentenced to three years imprisonment each, with an option to pay a fine of ₦2 million in lieu of jail time. Additionally, the ₦4 million offered by Obunike as a bribe to NDLEA officers was ordered forfeited to the Federal Government.

The NDLEA reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks and ensuring that those involved in illicit drug activities are brought to justice, emphasizing that the convictions underscore the agency’s zero-tolerance stance toward narcotics crime.
