According to Ireporter Online, the Niger State caucus in the National Assembly has declared that no child or community in the state should be left vulnerable to acts of terror, as lawmakers renewed calls for urgent collaborative action to secure the release of students abducted from a Catholic school in Agwara Local Government Area.

The caucus emphasized the need for broader national support to reinforce ongoing security efforts by Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago and the Niger State government. The lawmakers condemned the attack, expressing sorrow over the traumatic incident and reaffirming their commitment to work closely with security agencies to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted students.

In a statement issued in Abuja and endorsed by members of the Niger federal delegation, the lawmakers described the kidnapping as a painful reminder of the escalating security challenges confronting both the state and the nation. They noted that the situation in Niger mirrors the wider national struggle against terrorism, banditry, mass abductions, and other violent crimes destabilizing communities and endangering citizens.

The caucus called for increased military presence and strategic security deployments across identified hotspots—especially border communities like Agwara—alongside strengthened intelligence gathering and rapid-response systems capable of preventing and countering attacks.

The lawmakers urged improved inter-agency cooperation, support for community-driven security initiatives, and greater federal intervention to bolster the efforts of Governor Bago in restoring peace. They pledged to continue pressing for increased funding, manpower, and operational capacity for security forces, as well as legislative reforms aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s security framework.

They appealed to residents to remain calm but vigilant while rescue operations continue, urging security operatives to intensify their efforts to ensure the safe return of the kidnapped students and to bring those responsible to justice. The caucus concluded by praying for the protection of children across the state and lasting peace in Agwara, Niger State, and the entire country.
