Nigeria Shakes COP30 As Momoh Unveils Groundbreaking Climate Blueprint In Belém

Nigeria ignited global attention at COP30 in Belém, Brazil, as the Honourable Minister of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh FNSE, unveiled the nation’s bold new Integrated Climate Action Plan (ICLAP-MRD) 2025–2030, a transformative climate-resilience blueprint set to redefine regional development across the country.

The high-level side event, held at the bustling Nigeria Pavilion, brought together international delegates, climate leaders, development partners and government officials. In a powerful presentation, Engr. Momoh outlined the urgent environmental pressures confronting Nigeria—ranging from flooding and erosion to desertification, pollution and coastal threats—while presenting a decisive roadmap to secure communities and catalyse climate-smart growth.

The newly launched blueprint captures Nigeria’s climate priorities, including climate-smart agriculture, clean-tech transition for industries, early warning systems, blue economy expansion, renewable energy investments, carbon markets, and green entrepreneurship aimed at stimulating jobs and driving national resilience.

Dr. Mary Ada Ogbe, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Regional Development, applauding the integrated structure of the plan. Prof. Nicholas Ozor, delivered an impactful contribution on innovation and global competitiveness, while Prof. Magnus Onuoha, the event’s resource personnel, offered a sharp analysis of financing avenues such as green bonds, carbon markets and PPP models.

The event also enjoyed high-level presence from the Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Mukhtar Maiha, who lent significant institutional support. The Coordinator of HYPREP, Professor Nenibarini Zabbey, delivered a thoughtful goodwill message stressing the blueprint’s alignment with environmental restoration goals.

A heartfelt vote of thanks was delivered by Mohammed G. Alkali, MD of the Northeast Development Commission, who underscored the urgency of implementing regional interventions, especially in highly vulnerable zones.

With the ICLAP-MRD Blueprint now formally launched at COP30, Nigeria positions itself as a confident, investment-ready climate actor committed to protecting lives, building resilient regions and unlocking sustainable opportunities under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
