According to IReporter Online, troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, under the 2 Division, have successfully rescued two kidnapped victims following a swift military response to a kidnapping incident in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The operation, which was conducted in collaboration with the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), came after armed terrorists invaded the Ijalu area of Egbe on the evening of June 3, 2026, abducting members of a family, including a woman and her infant child. The attackers were also reported to have taken three other victims during the raid near the Solid Rock School axis of the community.
The victims were identified as Mrs. Idowu Kemi Titilayo and her child, who were forcefully taken during the assault. The incident triggered a rapid response from security forces following a distress call.
In a statement released on Thursday, June 4, the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 12 Brigade Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, confirmed that troops immediately mobilized alongside local vigilantes and launched a pursuit operation along the suspected escape route of the attackers.
According to the statement, sustained pressure from the combined security team forced the kidnappers to abandon the victims near the Oro axis before fleeing into surrounding forested areas. The rescued woman and her child were safely returned to their home, while ongoing operations have been intensified to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging residents to continue providing timely and credible intelligence to support ongoing security efforts.
