Panic In Zamfara As Police Rescue 25 Women And Children From Damba Bandits’ Den
According to Ireporter Online, the Zamfara State Police Command has successfully rescued 25 abducted residents—ten women and fifteen children—after armed bandits attacked Kuraje village in the Damba area of Gusau Local Government Area on Friday night.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, disclosed that a large group of heavily armed attackers stormed the community around 9:45 p.m., firing indiscriminately before forcefully taking the women and children into the forest.
He noted that security operatives took immediate action upon receiving the distress call. Joint patrol teams from the Damba Division and the Department of Operations in Gusau, working closely with the Community Protection Guards, swiftly mobilised to the area and engaged the fleeing bandits in a coordinated operation. Their prompt and strategic response led to the successful rescue of all 25 victims without any injuries.
The rescued individuals were taken to Sabongari Damba for safety, documentation, and medical checks before being reunited with their families.
The state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, applauded the officers for their courage, assuring residents that the command remains fully committed to safeguarding lives and property across Zamfara.
The incident adds to a troubling rise in security breaches nationwide. Recent attacks include the abduction of 25 schoolgirls in Kebbi State on 17 November, the killing of five worshippers during an assault on a church in Eruku, Kwara State on 18 November, and the kidnapping of 303 pupils and 12 teachers from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Niger State on 21 November.
