“Peace Has Truly Returned”: Fubara Celebrates Unity Across Rivers State

According to Ireporter Online, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed optimism that peace and reconciliation are steadily taking root across the state following months of political tension. The governor noted that the renewed atmosphere of calm was already paving the way for unity and sustainable development.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, Fubara emphasized that meaningful progress could only be achieved in an environment of harmony and stability. He made this known on Saturday during a civic reception in honour of his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu, held at Government Secondary School, Akabuka, in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA).

Encouraging residents to fully embrace peace, the governor stated, “We cannot achieve development in an atmosphere of chaos. No meaningful project can come to Akabuka or anywhere else when there is unrest. Our commitment has always been to peace because that is the only path to growth.”

Fubara also reflected on the recent reconciliation efforts in the state, observing that political actors who were once at odds now attend public events together — a clear sign, he said, that “peace has truly returned to Rivers State.”

He further announced plans to rehabilitate internal roads and commence the renovation of Government Secondary School, Akabuka, assuring residents that the Ministry of Education would soon begin assessments to facilitate the projects.

The governor also extended gratitude to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for his support in his political journey, stressing that he remained appreciative of the former governor’s role in his emergence.

In her remarks, Deputy Governor Professor Ngozi Odu expressed deep gratitude for the honour, describing the event as a powerful reflection of peace, love, and unity within her community. She acknowledged the support of Governor Fubara, President Bola Tinubu, Wike, and former governor Peter Odili, all of whom, she said, played key roles in her political advancement.

The event featured rich cultural displays, including a 21-cannon salute and the rare performance of Ebukele, a traditional ceremony said to occur only once in ten years — a gesture Odu described as a symbol of Akabuka’s appreciation and pride.

Chairman of the occasion, Professor Jason Osai, lauded the deputy governor as “a remarkable personality who has brought great honour to Akabuka,” while ONELGA Chairman, Shedrack Ogbogu, commended her contributions to the area, describing the event as the beginning of greater recognition for her service and leadership.
