Wike Hails Tinubu For Creating Jobs Through Abuja’s Expanding Road Network

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for driving job creation through massive road construction projects across Abuja.

Speaking at the official flag-off of the Mohammed Isa Road extension in the Asokoro District, Wike emphasized that the ongoing infrastructure revolution in the nation’s capital was a direct result of President Tinubu’s commitment to development. He noted that the numerous road projects were not only transforming the FCT’s landscape but also providing thousands of employment opportunities for residents.

According to Ireporter Online, Wike reiterated the importance of tax compliance among residents, stressing that such funds were essential to sustaining the pace of infrastructural development. He urged Abuja residents to pay their taxes to enable the government to deliver more modern roads, drainage systems, and other social amenities.

“The President is providing jobs through the construction of roads in the FCT. Pay us what you owe us,” Wike said, adding humorously that “a sweet soup is made possible by money,” drawing an analogy between financial resources and quality infrastructure delivery.

He explained that the FCT Administration’s ambitious projects depended heavily on available resources and residents’ cooperation through tax remittance. The minister also revealed that the Mohammed Isa Road extension was initiated after a direct appeal from one of President Tinubu’s prominent critics, who demanded better infrastructure in the Asokoro extension to match developments in other districts.

Wike described himself as an agent of President Tinubu, tasked with translating the President’s vision into tangible results. “You cannot say the FCT is working and Mr. President is not working. Through us, we carry out his directives and vision to ensure Abuja competes with other world-class cities,” he stated.

He noted that the Mohammed Isa Road extension marked the tenth project flagged off in the latest round of FCT construction activities, which include both road and water projects. The new road, according to him, will enhance connectivity, beautify the city, and boost employment.

Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Richard Yunana Dauda, disclosed that the project, awarded to Messrs. Global Spectrum Energy Services Limited, covers approximately four kilometres of road and includes modern drainage systems, street lighting, power supply, telecommunication ducts, and other key infrastructure. The project is expected to be completed within 14 months.
