BREAKING: Macron Gives Update On French Ambassador To Niger Current Location After Junta’s Ultimatum
Despite an ultimatum issued by the new army leaders in the coup-stricken Sahel country, France’s ambassador to Niger Republic, Sylvain Itte, remains in the country, as confirmed by French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday.
During a significant address on foreign policy to assembled ambassadors in Paris, Macron acknowledged that Ambassador Itte was still in Niamey, Niger’s capital, even though he had been given a 48-hour notice to depart the country on the previous Friday.
Macron praised the dedication of France’s diplomats who have navigated challenging situations in various countries in recent months, including Sudan and Niger.

He commended those who continue to carry out their duties amid such circumstances.
Niger’s President Mohamed Bazoum was overthrown on July 26 and has since been detained along with his family in the presidential palace. The coup has drawn condemnation from France and neighboring countries.
Last Friday, Niger’s foreign ministry announced that Ambassador Itte had been instructed to leave within 48 hours due to his refusal to engage with the new rulers and actions by the French government that were deemed to be against Niger’s interests.
Macron reiterated France’s stance of condemning the coup and standing by Bazoum, emphasizing that he had been democratically elected and displaying courage by refusing to step down. He reaffirmed France’s policy of not recognizing the coup leaders as legitimate authorities.
