Benin Market Kidnapping: Okpebholo Orders Full Investigation
According to Ireporter Online, Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has strongly condemned the reported kidnapping incident at the Vegetable Market along Airport Road in Benin City, describing it as unacceptable and a direct assault on innocent residents.
The statement, issued on Sunday, June 14, 2026, and signed by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Patrick Akhere Ebojele, noted that the governor has ordered the Commissioner of Police in Edo State to immediately commence a swift and coordinated investigation into the attack.
The governor directed that the investigation must ensure the safe rescue of the victims and the arrest of all individuals connected to the incident. He stressed that the state government would not tolerate any act capable of undermining public safety or disturbing the peace of Edo State.
Okpebholo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state, urging residents of Benin City and other parts of Edo to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to security agencies.
He further emphasized that timely and credible information from the public would strengthen ongoing security operations and enhance rapid response efforts. The governor also vowed that the government would not relent until those responsible are apprehended and brought to justice.
