DONE DEAL? Real Madrid Reach Agreement For Chelsea Star Marc Cucurella

Real Madrid have reached an agreement with Chelsea for the transfer of Spanish defender Marc Cucurella in a deal valued at €60 million (£51.7 million), bringing his four-year spell at Stamford Bridge to a close.

According to reports, the agreement consists of a guaranteed €55 million fee with an additional €5 million in performance-related bonuses. Although the final documentation is yet to be completed, both clubs are expected to finalize the transfer early next week.

The 27-year-old left-back is currently representing Spain at the 2026 FIFA World Cup being hosted across the United States, Canada and Mexico, but all parties have already reached a verbal understanding regarding the move.

Cucurella joined Chelsea from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2022 for £63 million and made 150 appearances during his time with the London club. He also played a significant role in helping the Blues lift the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup in 2025.

The defender attracted interest from several Spanish clubs in recent months, with Atletico Madrid and Barcelona reportedly making approaches through his representatives. However, Real Madrid emerged ahead of the competition and successfully secured an agreement for his signature.

Sources familiar with the negotiations indicate that Cucurella’s desire to return to Spain was a major factor in the decision. His departure follows a challenging campaign at Chelsea, during which he openly questioned the club’s decision to part ways with manager Enzo Maresca midway through the season, stating that he believed the team had been more stable before the coaching change.

Chelsea struggled throughout the campaign, finishing 10th in the Premier League and failing to qualify for European competition. Interim manager Calum McFarlane was unable to improve the club’s fortunes before his successor, Liam Rosenior, also exited the role.

Reports further suggest that newly appointed Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso had hoped to retain Cucurella as part of his plans for the 2026/27 season but was informed of the defender’s determination to pursue a return to La Liga.

Despite the impending transfer, Cucurella remains fully focused on Spain’s World Cup campaign and is expected to feature in the group’s matches against Cape Verde, Saudi Arabia and Uruguay before officially completing his move to the Spanish giants.
