Traffic Alert: Lagos To Divert Ifako-Ijaiye Roads For 2 Months

The Lagos State Government has announced a temporary traffic diversion along Baale Animashaun Road in the Ifako-Ijaiye area to facilitate the commencement of critical drainage improvement works aimed at enhancing stormwater management and reducing the risk of flooding in surrounding communities.

According to Ireporter Online, the diversion will take effect on June 15, 2026, and is expected to remain in place for approximately eight weeks while construction activities are carried out.

The project includes the installation of a new culvert designed to channel water safely from Adfarm Estate, Adson Street, and other adjoining neighborhoods across Baale Animashaun Road, thereby improving drainage infrastructure within the area.

Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, explained that the affected stretch of the road would be temporarily closed to ensure the safety of construction workers and road users throughout the duration of the project. As a result, motorists approaching from the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway will be unable to access Baale Animashaun Road until the work is completed.

To minimize disruptions, the state government has provided alternative routes for commuters. One of the designated routes directs motorists through Ijaiye Bus Stop Junction via Agbado-Ijaiye Road, popularly known as Post Office Road, connecting to Alakuko Road before rejoining Baale Animashaun Road.

Another diversion route leads drivers through Jendor Junction near Alakuko Junction and continues along Alhaji Ganiyu Road, while a third option takes motorists through Ajegunle-Ilo Bus Stop Junction, Adetiba Street, Fagbeyiro Abayomi Street, and Fola Azeez Street before reconnecting with the main road.

The government appealed to residents and commuters to cooperate with traffic management officials and adhere to all diversion signs during the construction period to ensure smooth traffic flow, minimize delays, and maintain order on adjoining roads.
