Kano Lawmaker Dumps NDC, Rejoins APC
A member of the Kano State House of Assembly representing Makoda State Constituency, Muhammad Ahmad Tomas, has officially left the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a significant political development in Kano State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to reports, Tomas announced his decision during a visit to the Abuja residence of the Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, on Monday. The lawmaker was accompanied by the Chairman of Makoda Local Government Area, Isa Currency, and the Chairman of Dambatta Local Government Area, Jamilu Abubakar Dambatta.
Welcoming Tomas back into the APC fold, Jibrin described the move as a positive boost for the ruling party and an important moment in the evolving political landscape of Kano State. He noted that the lawmaker’s decision reflected confidence in the APC’s leadership, vision, and governance agenda.
The Deputy Senate President expressed optimism that Tomas’ return would further strengthen the party’s grassroots structure, particularly within Kano North Senatorial District and other parts of the state. He also assured the returning lawmaker of equal opportunities and privileges within the party, stressing that all members would continue to enjoy a level playing field.
Jibrin further urged APC members across Kano State to remain united and committed to the party’s objectives as preparations gradually intensify for future electoral contests. He reiterated the party’s determination to consolidate its influence in Kano North, across the state, and throughout the country, emphasizing that collaboration among members would be essential to achieving its political goals.
