Edo Sets June 5 For Forest Guards Training Kickoff
According to Ireporter Online, the Edo State Government has announced that training for newly recruited forest guards will commence on June 5, as part of efforts to strengthen security within the state’s forest regions.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Public Safety and Security, Festus Ebea, the training exercise is scheduled to hold at the Police Training School, Ogida Barracks, Benin City, with all successful candidates expected to report on or before 5:00 p.m. on the commencement date.
Ebea disclosed that all shortlisted applicants have undergone profiling by the Department of State Services (DSS) and have also completed medical screening at the Edo Specialist Hospital, confirming their readiness for the programme.
The statement further directed that participants must arrive with all necessary documentation and comply strictly with the training facility’s rules and regulations, adding that additional instructions on subsequent training arrangements would be communicated at the venue.
The initiative comes amid heightened national attention on forest security, following recent incidents of abductions and rising concerns over banditry in various parts of the country. It also aligns with the Federal Government’s earlier announcement of plans to recruit 1,000 forest guards to enhance surveillance and response operations in forested areas.
