Presidency Confirms Arrest Of Man Behind Fake Tinubu Audio (Photo)
According to Ireporter Online, the Presidency has confirmed that operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have arrested a man identified as Ifechukwu Dennis for allegedly generating a fake audio recording which he falsely circulated as the voice of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed the development in a statement on Thursday, noting that the suspect was apprehended by a special crack team of the Inspector-General of Police in Benin, Edo State. He added that the police are expected to release an official statement detailing the circumstances surrounding the arrest.
Onanuga explained that Dennis allegedly created the manipulated audio and shared it with unsuspecting members of the public as though it was an authentic recording of the President. He further revealed that another individual has also been arrested for making what he described as a false and alarming social media post regarding the security situation in Abuja, which reportedly caused panic among residents.
The presidential aide stressed that the arrests demonstrate the government’s resolve to clamp down on misinformation and the misuse of social media, warning that individuals who spread false or inciting content online will be held accountable for their actions.
Meanwhile, the Presidency had previously raised concerns over a separate alleged fake audio involving President Tinubu, which it claimed was circulated by social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan. However, it was later clarified that the audio in question did not originate from him.
