IGP Orders Immediate Retirement Of Senior Officers Involved In Age Falsification 

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has directed the immediate retirement of senior officers in the Nigeria Police Force who have either exceeded the mandatory 60-year age limit or have served for over 35 years.

These officers have been implicated in allegations of document forgery, falsification of records, and violations of service regulations.

The directive was communicated in a letter dated February 1, 2025, and signed by CP Bode Akinbamilowo, Deputy Force Secretary, on behalf of the IGP. The letter was sent to senior officials, including Deputy Inspectors-General, Assistant Inspectors-General, Commissioners of Police, and heads of police colleges nationwide.

The directive follows a decision by the Police Service Commission (PSC) at its first extraordinary meeting of the 6th Management Board, which approved the immediate retirement of officers exceeding the service limit.

A list of officers identified for retirement includes Simon Asamber Lough, whose service should have ended on January 8, 2022, along with Benneth Chinedu Igweh, Akinbayo Olasukami Olasoji, Louis Chike Nwabuwa, Mukar Sule, Adamu Danjuma, Ajao Olusegun, and Iriemi Solomon.

A recent investigation revealed that over 300 senior officers were involved in an age falsification scandal. Reports indicate that some officers extended their service tenure by manipulating records, with allegations that some had remained in service for up to 45 years.

Sources claim that officers like Idowu Owohunwa had altered records to extend his service until 2029, while Benneth Igweh, allegedly over 70 years old, remained in the force beyond the legal limit.

The PSC has directed that all affected officers be officially notified, and their vacancies filled immediately. Additionally, implicated officers may be required to reimburse salaries and benefits received beyond their official retirement dates.

This development highlights ongoing efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to address internal corruption and uphold discipline within its ranks.
