Good News: Abducted Retired General’s Wife Reportedly Released

According to Ireporter Online, the rising wave of insecurity in parts of the country has taken a tragic dimension following the death of retired Major General Abubakar Rabe, a former spokesman of the Nigerian Army, while in the custody of armed bandits in Katsina State.

It was gathered that Rabe’s wife, Hajiya Amina Abubakar, who was abducted alongside him during the incident, has been released alive and handed over to the Katsina State Government.

A source quoted by TheNiche revealed that the remains of the late military officer were also released to the state authorities and subsequently transported to Kaduna for burial arrangements.

The Katsina State Government confirmed the development in an official statement issued by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr Nasir Muazu, noting that the retired general died while in captivity.

The statement explained that the deceased reportedly passed away due to complications linked to diabetes and hypertension, despite ongoing efforts by security agencies and government officials to secure his release.

Governor Dikko Umaru Radda expressed condolences to the bereaved family, describing the incident as a painful and dark moment for both Katsina State and the nation, while stressing the need for intensified action against criminal elements operating within the region.

The government further reaffirmed its commitment to working with federal authorities and security agencies to ensure those responsible for the abduction are tracked down and brought to justice, assuring residents of continued efforts to restore peace and security across the state.

Rabe and his wife were abducted on May 30, 2026, while travelling along the Marabar Musawa–Kafinsoli Road in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State. Their vehicle was reportedly ambushed by armed bandits near Zakin Baure village, during which their driver sustained gunshot injuries.
