Kwankwaso Never Threatened To Exit Our Party – NDC Clarifies

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has refuted reports alleging that its vice presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, contemplated dumping the party over internal disagreements, particularly in Kano State.

According to Ireporter Online, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, dismissed the claims during an interview on Arise News on Saturday night, describing them as unfounded and politically motivated narratives aimed at creating disunity within the party.

Director insisted that Kwankwaso never issued any threat to leave the party, stressing that the reports were mere speculation circulated by opponents seeking to destabilize the NDC.

“At no time did our leader, Kwankwaso, threaten to leave the party. Those were just conjectures and media speculations trying to demarket the party, and we know where they are coming from,” he said.

He further alleged that the rumours were being driven by political interests attempting to portray internal crisis within the party following recent adjustments to its candidate list in Kano State.

The controversy reportedly stemmed from the replacement of some nominees earlier submitted by the Kwankwasiyya movement, a political bloc aligned with the former Kano State governor.

Party documents cited indicate that the changes were made to preserve an existing power-sharing formula between the Kwankwasiyya group and the established NDC structure in the state, with 60 percent of positions allocated to the Kwankwasiyya bloc and 40 percent to the party’s original framework.

The development had sparked speculation that Kwankwaso might reconsider his position within the party if his allies were excluded from key political slots.

However, NDC officials maintained that no such ultimatum was issued, adding that consultations were ongoing to address concerns arising from the nomination process.

Director also noted that disagreements over candidate selection are common in political parties, especially within emerging coalitions preparing for major elections, citing examples of internal contests in other states as part of normal political dynamics.
