Mofe Duncan Fires Back At Daddy Freeze Over Alex Ekubo’s Service Of Songs

Actor Mofe Duncan has publicly challenged media personality Ifedayo Olarinde, widely known as Daddy Freeze, over his criticism of the service of songs held in honour of actor Alex Ekubo.

According to Ireporter Online, Daddy Freeze had questioned the nature of the tribute event, accusing gospel singer Mercy Chinwo of turning the solemn gathering into what he described as a concert. He also referenced gospel minister Nathaniel Bassey while expressing his views.

Responding through a detailed Instagram post, Duncan maintained that the occasion was organised solely to celebrate and honour Alex Ekubo’s life, stressing that it was never intended to cater to the personal preferences or opinions of attendees.

The actor clarified that the gathering was a night of tributes and a service of songs rather than a funeral, noting that traditional hymns were performed multiple times throughout the event. He recalled being moved by a rendition of “Blessed Assurance” and argued that hymns are not exclusive to Catholic or Anglican traditions, questioning assumptions about Ekubo’s denominational background.

Duncan further explained that the event evolved into a night of worship because members of Ekubo’s close circle repeatedly emphasized the late actor’s deep love for worship music. In his view, a worship-filled celebration accurately reflected the kind of farewell Ekubo would have appreciated.

He also criticised Daddy Freeze for allegedly ignoring the event’s all-white dress code by attending in black attire, while suggesting that there may have been a personal reason for the choice. However, Duncan said the most troubling aspect of the media personality’s conduct was his decision to publicly announce that he left the event out of anger.

According to the actor, such remarks shifted attention away from the purpose of the gathering and undermined what was meant to be a dignified celebration of Ekubo’s life and legacy. He expressed hope that his response would make it clear why he believed Daddy Freeze’s comments and actions were inappropriate, insisting that the night was dedicated to honouring Alex Ekubo rather than becoming a subject of public controversy or personal opinion.
