Peter Obi Wanted Aisha Yesufu In Reps, She Chose Senate – NDC Reveals
According to Ireporter Online, the National Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ikenna Enekweizu, has provided new insights into the party’s internal disagreements over legislative nominations, shedding light on the involvement of its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in candidate consultations ahead of the elections.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Enekweizu stated that Peter Obi had, at a point during internal discussions, expressed support for activist Aisha Yesufu to contest the House of Representatives seat for AMAC/Bwari. He explained that the suggestion was part of wider consultations aimed at aligning party interests and streamlining candidate selection before final submissions were made.
He noted that the consultations were designed to minimize internal disputes and ensure the party presented a united front going into the elections. However, despite the proposal, Yesufu reportedly opted to pursue a senatorial ticket instead of the House of Representatives seat initially discussed.
Enekweizu further clarified that while party leaders often provide guidance on strategic placements for aspirants, individuals retain the freedom to make their final choices. According to him, such guidance is intended to balance political interests and improve the party’s overall electoral prospects.
He also addressed concerns from aspirants who were unsuccessful in securing party tickets, noting that disappointment is a normal part of political contests. He added that the party has established internal mechanisms for handling grievances and resolving disputes among members.
The NDC scribe emphasized that the leadership remains committed to maintaining unity within the party, stressing that ongoing reconciliation efforts are aimed at ensuring internal disagreements do not disrupt preparations for future elections.
