According to Ireporter Online, the presidential candidate of the Accord Party and Co-Chairman of the Movement for Democratic Renewal, Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has welcomed the recent agreement between the United States and Iran aimed at ending hostilities and restoring stability in the Middle East.

Olawepo-Hashim made this known during a brief visit to Dakar, Senegal, where he also commended the efforts of governments and international partners whose diplomatic engagements helped create the conditions for dialogue and peaceful resolution of the conflict.

He stated that the development underscores the enduring value of diplomacy in addressing complex global disputes, particularly at a time of heightened international tension and uncertainty. He expressed optimism that sustained dialogue between both nations would help consolidate peace and reduce the risk of further escalation.

In his remarks, he praised the roles played by key stakeholders, including the governments of the United States, Iran, Qatar, and Pakistan, noting that their collective efforts demonstrated that negotiation remains a viable path to resolving even the most entrenched conflicts.

The Accord Party presidential candidate, who is also a global energy executive and recipient of the Lord Max Berlof Prize for Global Affairs in 2009, emphasized that the latest development reinforces the need for world leaders to prioritize peace-building and constructive engagement over confrontation.

He further noted that global economies are deeply interconnected, warning that instability in the Middle East could have far-reaching consequences on energy markets, trade routes, investment flows, and global economic growth.

According to him, peace in the region is not only vital for the Middle East but also for international security and economic stability across continents, including Africa. He added that Nigeria and other African nations have a strong interest in supporting a predictable and peaceful global order that fosters development and cooperation.

Olawepo-Hashim urged African countries to continue supporting initiatives that promote dialogue, mutual understanding, and international cooperation, stressing that a stable global environment remains essential for sustainable development and prosperity.
