Nigerian Percussionist Blazes Global Stage With African Rhythms
According to Ireporter Online, Nigerian drummer and percussionist Kehinde Komolafe Hammed, popularly known as Kehinde Komolafe Hammed, is gaining international attention for using traditional African rhythms to project Nigeria’s cultural heritage through modern musical performances.
The Lagos-born artist, who hails from Orile Agege, has steadily developed his career in percussion since 2019, blending indigenous African drumming traditions with contemporary live entertainment to appeal to both local and global audiences.
Born in 1996, Hammed says his artistic mission is centered on preserving Africa’s rich percussion heritage while reshaping it to fit modern performance spaces across Nigeria and abroad. He is a graduate of Olabisi Onabanjo University and later advanced his studies in the United Kingdom, where he earned a master’s degree from Sheffield Hallam University in 2024, all while continuing to build his music career.
Over the years, he has performed at cultural festivals, community celebrations, religious gatherings, and entertainment events in Nigeria and the United Kingdom, consistently showcasing African rhythmic traditions to diverse audiences. He explains that percussion remains a vital part of African history, serving not only as a form of entertainment but also as a medium for communication, ceremonies, and cultural expression.
His work reflects a growing movement among African musicians seeking to elevate indigenous sounds onto global platforms as international interest in African music continues to rise. Hammed maintains that his commitment remains unchanged—using rhythm as a tool for cultural preservation and artistic expression, whether performing locally or on international stages.
