Anambra Election: Appeal Court Yet To Set Up Tribunal, Andy Uba’s Camp Reacts
The Court of Appeal has yet to set up the Anambra State governorship election petition tribunal over 10 days since the election was concluded, The PUNCH has learnt.
When The PUNCH reached out to the spokesperson of Court of Appeal, Sa’adatu Kachalla, she said no one had filed any petition.
“We have not received anything; the court has not got anything. Nobody has come to file any paper,” Kachalla said.
However, the All Progressives Congress’ candidate, Andy Uba, on Thursday insisted that he would challenge the outcome of the poll in court.
Speaking with one of our correspondents on the telephone, through his Deputy Director, Media and Publicity, Ikechukwu Onyia, Uba said it was the job of the Court of Appeal to set up the tribunal whether there was a complaint or not.
He, however, said the window within which to file the application had not elapsed.

Onyia said, “The point is simple, whether anybody complains or not, the Court of Appeal will set up the tribunal. It is upon the constitution of the tribunal that people will now go and submit their application.
“Governorship election petition does not originate from the Court of Appeal; so, the idea of waiting for people to complain to the Court of Appeal before it can constitute election tribunal or tribunals is preposterous.
“Again, there is a time window when an aggrieved party in the election can submit a petition. That window has not elapsed. And election litigation is not something you do haphazardly. It is something you prepare your data/ information so well so that you won’t make any mistake in submission and all that. So, the time is still there.”
The Independent National Electoral Commission had declared the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Prof. Charles Soludo, the winner of the poll.
