Senate President Godswill Akpabio has credited the emergence of Nentawe Yilwatda as chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) with bringing new momentum to the party in Plateau State.

Speaking at a ceremony in Jos on Saturday where defectors from five political parties—including the Peoples Democratic Party, Labour Party, PRP, African Democratic Congress, and New Nigeria Peoples Party—were formally welcomed into the APC, Akpabio praised Yilwatda’s leadership and the guidance of President Bola Tinubu.

According to a statement from Akpabio’s Special Assistant on Media and Communication, Anietie Ekong, the event drew a large turnout of party supporters and notable political figures, including former governorship candidates and members of the National Assembly.

Akpabio, representing President Tinubu at the occasion, hailed Yilwatda as a man of integrity and courage, asserting that his leadership had already strengthened the APC’s position in Plateau State ahead of the 2027 elections. “When you are escorted by a lion like President Tinubu, you have nothing to fear,” he said.

He further emphasized that the Tinubu administration was committed to addressing security challenges in Plateau State. Highlighting the human toll of past violence, Akpabio called for lasting peace and commended the President’s dedication to ensuring stability in the region.
