“Dead Party!” Oshiomhole Fires Back At PDP Over Attacks On Okpebholo’s First Year

According to Ireporter Online, Senator Adams Oshiomhole has criticized former Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, accusing him of leaving behind numerous abandoned projects for his successor, Governor Monday Okpebholo. Speaking in Benin on Sunday, the senator alleged that Obaseki frequently conducted groundbreaking ceremonies for initiatives that never materialised into substantial development.

Oshiomhole’s remarks were in response to comments by the Edo State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman, Tony Aziegbemi, who described Okpebholo’s first year in office as unproductive. Dismissing the PDP’s claims, Oshiomhole branded the opposition as a “dead party,” insisting it had no credible record of performance during its time in power.

The senator urged the media to prioritise verifiable information from events occurring across the state rather than rely on what he described as unreliable political statements. He highlighted several projects he attributed to Okpebholo’s administration, including the ongoing flyover construction at Ramat Park, which he said would significantly reduce traffic congestion and enhance economic efficiency through shorter travel times and lower fuel consumption.

Oshiomhole also faulted the previous administration for neglecting the education sector, claiming many schools were left with inadequate staffing and deteriorated infrastructure. He stated that Okpebholo had initiated rehabilitation works and commenced the recruitment of 5,000 teachers to restore quality learning environments.

He further commended the administration’s increased financial support for state-owned tertiary institutions, noting that Ambrose Alli University and Edo University, Iyamho, now benefit from restored and expanded subventions. According to him, AAU’s monthly subvention has risen from ₦41 million to ₦500 million, helping to resolve prolonged disruptions, while Edo University, Iyamho, now receives ₦250 million monthly as part of a broader investment in higher education.
