Kwankwaso No Longer A Political Threat, His Career Is Over — Ganduje
Former Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has declared that the political future of his predecessor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, is effectively over following his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
According to a report by Ireporter Online, Ganduje made the remarks during an interview on BBC Hausa Service, where he argued that internal competition for the ADC’s presidential ticket would hinder the party’s ability to achieve any significant political success.
He maintained that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) remains firmly in control of the country’s political landscape and dismissed suggestions that Kwankwaso’s move could weaken the party. Ganduje expressed confidence that the APC would retain its grip on Kano State, despite recent shifts within opposition ranks.
Downplaying the significance of Kwankwaso’s defection, Ganduje likened it to a bird moving from one branch to another, insisting it posed no threat to the APC. He argued that the concentration of presidential ambitions within the ADC would ultimately undermine the party’s cohesion and prospects.
The former governor further emphasized the APC’s strength, citing its expansive internal structure and the support it enjoys from numerous state governors as evidence of its continued dominance, particularly in Kano.
Commenting on the defection of the APC’s 2023 governorship candidate, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, to the ADC, Ganduje described the move as a personal decision aligned with democratic principles. He noted that Gawuna’s action was likely driven by political ambition, especially with the APC’s backing firmly behind the current governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf.
Ganduje also voiced support for the appointment of Murtala Sule Garo as Kano’s deputy governor following the resignation of Aminu Abdullahi Gwarzo, describing Garo as a seasoned and capable public servant deserving of the role.
