My Late Husband Discouraged My Music Break – Niniola
Nigerian singer Niniola Apata has spoken emotionally about the pivotal role her late husband, Michael Ndika, played in both her personal life and music career.
According to Ireporter Online, the vocalist shared her reflections in a video recorded during a gathering held in Ndika’s honour, where she recounted how their relationship significantly shaped her growth as an artist and as an individual.
Ndika, who served as the CEO of the African music platform NaijaReview, passed away on May 19, 2026, at the age of 44.
Niniola described him as her strongest pillar of support from the beginning of her career, revealing that even at a point when she considered taking a break from music, he strongly encouraged her not to quit. She noted that he consistently believed in her talent and was determined to see her succeed, promising to make her a star.
The singer further expressed that their relationship was deeply intertwined, describing Ndika as her daily companion and primary source of emotional strength. She added that his death has left a profound void in her life, saying everything has changed since his passing.
She also extended gratitude to his family for their support and acceptance, while admitting that coping with the loss has been extremely difficult.
Reflecting on their marriage, Niniola described it as a deeply loving partnership, stating that Ndika dedicated his life to her success and well-being. She explained that while she served as the public face of her brand, he remained the driving force behind her career.
She said their bond was built on love, trust, and shared ambition, adding that he “met her raw” and transformed her into a star through unwavering belief and support.
Since his passing, she said she continues to struggle with the absence of the man she described as the most important person in her life.
