In response, Adelabu’s Special Adviser on Strategic Communications and Media Relations, Bolaji Tunji, described Makinde’s allegation as baseless. The minister argued that the governor’s statement reflected “deep anxiety” as his political influence appears to wane in the face of a resurgent and unified opposition.

The statement further contended that Makinde’s remarks were “a projection of his own insecurities,” driven by the collapse of political dynamics that had previously favored him. Adelabu highlighted that the once-fractured APC, previously exploited by Makinde for electoral advantage, is now stronger and more cohesive, rallying around prominent leaders including himself, Senator Teslim Folarin, and Florence Ajimobi.
