Yahaya Bello’s Inner Circle In Hot Water: EFCC Investigation Heating Up Before Court Date

According to Naija News, the EFCC’s efforts aim to strengthen its case against Bello, who faces serious allegations of corruption and the misappropriation of public funds during his time in office.

As reported by PM News, insiders indicate that the investigation may lead to the arrest of former aides, some of whom currently occupy roles in the present administration. Their involvement is believed to have facilitated the alleged financial irregularities linked to Bello’s governorship.

Attempts to contact EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale for comments regarding the agency’s strategy were unsuccessful. However, sources reveal that the EFCC has amassed a substantial amount of evidence against Bello, significantly surpassing what has been presented in the ongoing Federal Court case in Abuja.

The agency is reportedly keen to progress with the case against Bello, who has managed to evade arrest for several months. Sources disclosed that the EFCC has been cautious about advancing the case, primarily because they have yet to bring Bello to court to initiate a full trial.

An EFCC official stated, “We have more evidence against Bello than many realize. He is aware that we possess information regarding his alleged financial mismanagement during his governorship.”

The official added that Bello’s attempts to evade arrest by relying on the immunity of his successor, Governor Usman Ododo, will only prolong the inevitable.

“He will face justice; no one is above the law,” the official emphasized.

Another senior EFCC official, who requested anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the case, suggested that new charges may be filed against Bello.

She hinted at significant disclosures expected during the trial, stating, “Many of his supporters, including civil society organizations and lawmakers in the Kogi State Assembly who have called for the removal of our chairman, may need to reconsider their positions when the full details are revealed.”

Bello is anticipated to respond to a public summons and a new 16-count charge on October 24, along with two other defendants, Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu.
