Bello’s Battle: Ex-Governor Accuses EFCC of Bias, Calls For Tinubu To Intervene

The media office of Yahaya Bello, the former Governor of Kogi State, has issued a sharp rebuke of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), accusing the agency of engaging in a politically motivated smear campaign against him.

In a statement signed by Ohiare Michael, the office criticized the EFCC’s recent actions and public statements, labeling them as biased and driven by personal interests rather than a true commitment to fighting corruption.

The EFCC had previously declared Bello wanted, drawing widespread media attention. However, reports later revealed that the ex-governor voluntarily appeared at the EFCC headquarters, where he was permitted to leave without any charges being filed against him. This development has led to questions about the EFCC’s true intentions and the credibility of its actions.

“If the EFCC were genuinely committed to prosecution, wouldn’t they have detained him that day?” the statement posed, suggesting ulterior motives behind the agency’s handling of the situation.

The media office also called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to step in and address the ongoing tensions between Bello and the EFCC, emphasizing that the fight against corruption should be fair and inclusive.

“Nigeria belongs to all Nigerians,” the statement concluded, urging for a balanced and just approach to governance and accountability.
