Activists operating under the banner of Social Rehabilitation Gruppe (SRG) have deemed the ongoing efforts of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in the recent general election, to cast doubt on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s academic credentials as a futile endeavor.

In a statement released yesterday, Dr. Marindoti Oludare, the Convener and National Coordinator of SRG, expressed disappointment with Atiku’s actions, referring to him as “the seasoned presidential candidate who, regrettably, will never hold the presidency.” Oludare noted that Atiku’s attempt to question President Tinubu’s certificate validity is another misguided venture that will lead him to yet another failure.

Dr. Oludare, a Nigerian-born medical practitioner residing in the United States, asserted that Atiku and his followers are attempting to raise uncertainties about President Tinubu’s certificate, even though the institution responsible for issuing the certificate is defending its authenticity in court.

He further elaborated: “It’s a well-known fact that you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. This saying may explain why these individuals struggle to grasp basic facts about straightforward matters. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, much like numerous champions of our democracy, made significant sacrifices during the struggle for democratic rule. Among the things he lost was his university certificate.”

Dr. Oludare continued, “When universities issue certificates, they don’t keep a duplicate for reissuance in case the original is lost. It’s common sense that if a certificate issued in 1979 is reissued in 1999, the department issuing the certificate may have undergone staff changes during that period.”

He offered an analogy by recounting his own experience with requesting a reissue of his Master of Science certificate from Texas Tech University, his alma mater. Dr. Oludare explained that the reissue instruction page on the university’s website states: “Diplomas are reissued in the current format, will reflect the current awarding college for the degree, and bear the signatures of current Texas Tech University and Texas Tech University System officials, no exceptions.”

In essence, he indicated that if the issuing department had updated its logo or branding since the certificate’s initial issuance, the reissued certificate would incorporate the updated logo, which is a standard practice in many institutions.
