Fear Grips School Principals As Fubara Threatens To Dismiss Principals Harbouring Cultists In Schools

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has issued a stern warning that any school principal discovered sheltering cultists within state-owned secondary schools will face dismissal.

During the inauguration of the renovated Government Comprehensive Secondary School (GCSS) in Borikiri, Port Harcourt, Fubara emphasized that these schools are meant for high-quality education, not as breeding grounds for cultism.

He asserted his commitment to providing top-notch facilities to inspire educators to excel in their role of nurturing students, emphasizing his belief in education as the cornerstone of development and progress.

While acknowledging that the project was initiated by his predecessor, Fubara emphasized that his administration efficiently utilized taxpayer funds to complete it for the benefit of the people of Rivers State.

He urged the school authorities to take all necessary measures to secure the facility and encouraged students to dedicate more time to their studies in order to excel in their respective fields.

Fubara stated, “Today, we have a world-class edifice. We have an environment that fosters a deep appreciation for learning, ensuring our students are happy to be in school. This will also motivate our teachers and inspire them to give their best.”

He firmly announced a new policy: “Any principal found to be associated with cultism will be dismissed from service.”

During the project’s inauguration, former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Onueze Okocha (SAN), praised the governor for transforming the school with high-quality infrastructure and learning resources that have garnered admiration.

The State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Chinedum Mmom, described the project as comprising administrative offices for staff, science and agriculture laboratories, including Information Communication Technology (ICT) facilities, and a library. Additionally, there is a 24-classroom block, a multipurpose hall with a capacity for 500 people, and a sports complex.

The President of the Old Boys Association of the school, Dr. Nobel Abe, expressed gratitude to the state government for responding to their plea and renovating the structures at the school, turning it into a fitting learning institution.
