BREAKING: More Than 70 Crocodiles On The Loose After Flooding (DETAILS)

In the wake of recent floods in southern China, authorities have initiated an operation to locate and retrieve over 70 crocodiles that escaped due to the inundation.

Heavy rains brought about by a typhoon lashed southern China last week, resulting in floods around Maoming city in Guangdong province. This led to the overflow of a lake at a commercial crocodile farm, allowing more than 70 crocodiles to break free, as per local media reports.

Reportedly, there were 69 adult crocodiles and six juveniles roaming near the village of Peng Cun.

A video released by the state-supported Beijing News depicted emergency responders in red uniforms scouring inundated fields in rescue boats. Additionally, images revealed several crocodiles, measuring about 2 meters in length, restrained with red tape on the road.

According to China National Radio (CNR), which has affiliations with the state, the crocodiles are still in the water, and multiple government agencies are collaborating to apprehend them. The CNR report also mentioned that the exact situation is still under investigation, including the precise number of escaped crocodiles.

In China, crocodiles are bred for their skin and meat, which are occasionally utilized in traditional medicine.

The affected area is also home to a crocodile theme park and the largest crocodile breeding center in the country, as per CNR.
