Imo Attack: How Deceased officers Were Lured To Fake Distress Call Leading To Ambush – Police
Yesterday, the Nigeria Police Force revealed that the security personnel who tragically lost their lives in Imo State on Tuesday fell victim to a deceptive distress call that led them into an ambush.
This attack resulted in the devastating loss of officers from various security agencies, all of whom were deeply committed to upholding peace and safeguarding lives in Imo State.
Muyiwa Adejobi, the police spokesperson, stated that the incident occurred on September 19 in Oriagu, Ehime Mbano Local Council of Imo State. It serves as a painful reminder of the daily hazards and sacrifices that our security personnel willingly endure in their unwavering dedication to ensuring the safety and security of our communities.

He explained, “The security personnel affected by this senseless act of violence included Police Officers, Military personnel, members of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). They were diligently responding to a distress call from the area, only to discover it was a ruse, designed to draw them into the ambush.”
“The Acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has reassured the public that the police are fully committed to working closely with other relevant authorities to conduct a thorough and comprehensive investigation into this heinous act. They will relentlessly pursue justice.
He promises that the Force will intensify efforts to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure the safety of our officers and the security of our communities. He earnestly urges the public to remain calm and vigilant.”
“He also calls on the public to collaborate with law enforcement agencies in the collective pursuit of peace and order in Imo State and other parts of the country.”
Meanwhile, Egbetokun has issued orders to clamp down on non-state actors in response to the recent attack. He sends his thoughts and prayers to the families of the fallen heroes and vows that their sacrifices will not be in vain.
He stated, “The NPF encourages anyone with information related to this incident to come forward and actively assist in the investigative process. Information can be provided anonymously through the NPF Social Media handles @PoliceNG or via email at pressforabuja@police.gov.ng.”
