Nigeria Will Have a Better Choice in 2027: Adebayo’s Vision for the Nation’s Future
Prince Adewole Adebayo, the former presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), expressed strong opinions on the current state of Nigeria under President Bola Tinubu’s administration. Adebayo, known for his candidness and deep understanding of Nigeria’s political landscape, did not hold back in his critique of the current government’s policies and actions.
Adebayo disagreed with those who claim that President Tinubu is not responsible for the issues inherited from the previous administration led by President Muhammadu Buhari. He pointed out that Tinubu himself had stated his intention to continue from where Buhari left off. This continuity, according to Adebayo, means that Tinubu is just as accountable for the nation’s challenges.
Adebayo criticized the economic strategies of the APC government, particularly the return of the fuel subsidy and the lack of transparency in governance. He likened the government’s approach to “tightening the belt around the people’s neck,” emphasizing that basic necessities such as food, electricity, education, and healthcare are not discretionary expenses for Nigerians. In contrast, the government’s discretionary spending on items like presidential aircraft highlights a significant disconnect between those in power and the everyday realities of the people.
The former SDP candidate also lamented the pervasive insecurity in the country, citing the tragic case of the Emir of Gobir, Mohammed Bawa, who was kidnapped and killed. This incident, Adebayo noted, underscores the government’s failure to provide security and governance for its citizens.
When asked about the implementation of Tinubu’s policies, Adebayo described them as “wrong-headed” and not suited to Nigeria’s economic needs. He argued that the current administration, despite having formed a cabinet, has not yet begun to govern effectively. Adebayo highlighted that while a few ministers may be performing well, the overall government is not addressing the country’s economic challenges adequately.
Adebayo also addressed the credibility crisis surrounding Tinubu’s administration, noting that it is essential to assess the government based on its adherence to the constitution, which mandates governance for the good, order, and welfare of the people. He believes that the Tinubu administration has fallen short in this regard, failing to bring peace, justice, or economic relief to Nigerians.
Looking ahead to the 2027 presidential race, Adebayo emphasized that his focus is on ensuring that Nigerians do not suffer further under the current administration. He expressed a desire to see improvement in Tinubu’s governance by 2025, rather than simply waiting to remove him in 2027. However, he remains hopeful that by the next election, Nigerians will have a better choice to make, one that can truly address the nation’s needs.
Adebayo’s message is clear: Nigeria deserves better governance, and he is committed to advocating for the people’s welfare, whether in or out of office. His vision for 2027 is one where Nigerians can make an informed and improved choice for their future.
