Edo Governorship Race: INEC Shuts Media Accreditation, Confirms 16 Political Parties
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially closed the media accreditation portal for the upcoming Edo State governorship election, set for September 21, 2024. INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, made this announcement on Wednesday, emphasizing that the deadline is final, with no possibility of extensions.
As of now, 113 media organizations have registered a total of 865 journalists to cover the election. INEC has urged all media outlets to ensure they complete the accreditation process before the midnight deadline. Failure to do so will result in exclusion from observing both the voting process and the collation of results.
The commission also confirmed that 16 political parties will be participating in the Edo governorship election, setting the stage for a competitive electoral process.
