Midnight Ambush: Security Forces Repel Bandits In Fierce Gun Battle, One Killed In Katsina

According to a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the attack occurred in the early hours of Sunday, February 23, 2025. The police received an emergency call at approximately 12:57 AM and swiftly responded to the distress situation.

Upon arrival, security operatives engaged the bandits in a gunfight, forcing them to retreat, with some sustaining injuries. A subsequent search of the area led to the discovery of one neutralized suspect.

Authorities have intensified efforts to apprehend the fleeing attackers, with investigations currently underway. The police reassured residents of their commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.

Meanwhile, in Sokoto State, residents of Sabon Birni Local Government Area are reportedly facing severe distress due to extortion by a notorious bandit leader, Bello Turji. Reports indicate that his gang has imposed a ₦25 million levy on local communities as retribution for the death of one of their members and the loss of firearms in a clash with security forces.

In addition to this, the gang is demanding a ₦3 million ransom for the release of 12 worshippers abducted from four villages.

Hon. Ibrahim Saidu Naino, representing Sabon Birni East in the Sokoto State House of Assembly, confirmed the ransom demands, stating that ₦250,000 was placed on each abducted individual.

The financial penalty was allegedly imposed as compensation for the group’s losses, following a confrontation where local residents, with military assistance, managed to neutralize a bandit and seize weapons.

Security agencies continue efforts to curb these criminal activities while assuring affected communities of their unwavering commitment to restoring peace and stability.
