Solana: YoruPop Goes Beyond Singing In Yoruba
According to Ireporter Online, fast-rising Nigerian artist Solana has described her musical style, YoruPop, as a distinctive genre created to preserve the richness of the Yoruba language and cultural heritage while presenting it in a modern sound.
The Lagos-based singer, whose latest track titled “Okunkun” is currently gaining traction across social media platforms, explained that YoruPop goes beyond simply performing music in Yoruba. She noted that the genre fuses contemporary pop and Afrobeats with the cultural depth and authenticity of Yoruba traditions.
Solana emphasized that YoruPop is defined not only by language but also by rhythm, melody, vocal expression, and the cultural essence embedded in the music. According to her, the aim is to maintain the authenticity of Yoruba heritage while packaging it in a form that is relatable to a global audience.
She further stated that her vision is to create music that honours tradition while appealing to modern listeners worldwide, adding that YoruPop offers audiences a deeper cultural experience rather than a surface-level Yoruba influence.
