Zulum Speaks On Gubio’s Running Mate Choice

Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has stated that the decision on who will emerge as the All Progressives Congress (APC) deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 election lies solely with the party’s governorship candidate, Mustapha Gubio.

According to Ireporter Online, the governor made the remarks during a visit to the palace of the Emir of Biu in Biu Local Government Area, where he revealed that Gubio is expected to announce his preferred running mate next week.

Zulum disclosed that no fewer than 27 aspirants have expressed interest in securing the deputy governorship ticket of the APC. He explained that while he and other party leaders would provide guidance throughout the selection process, the ultimate decision belongs to Gubio.

The governor emphasized that the choice of a running mate should be based on competence, equity, fairness, and what best serves the interests of Borno State, rather than sectional or regional considerations. He also appealed to residents to pray for a peaceful and transparent process that would produce a capable deputy governorship candidate.

Reflecting on his own experience, Zulum recalled that although he received advice from former Borno State Governor Kashim Shettima when selecting his running mate, he retained the authority to make the final decision. He stressed that no individual was imposed on him, underscoring the importance of allowing Gubio the same freedom to make his choice.

The governor’s comments come amid reports of candidate substitutions and changes within the ruling APC in different parts of the country, highlighting ongoing discussions over internal party processes ahead of the 2027 elections.
