Wike Reacts To Peter Obi’s Statement: “I Don’t Know How To Value It

According to Ireporter Online, Obi had called on President Bola Tinubu to either resign or withdraw his 2027 re-election ambition, accusing the administration of failing to effectively tackle insecurity and properly respond to the abduction incident in Oyo State.

The former Anambra State governor alleged that the government’s response to the situation showed a lack of compassion and capacity, claiming that residents affected by the incident had been left disappointed and abandoned.

Obi stated that he had publicly addressed the matter on two occasions and appealed to the abductors to release the children. He also disclosed that he contacted Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, twice to express his support and concern over the development.

He further recalled that past leaders, including former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and Goodluck Jonathan, personally reached out to state governors during major security challenges.

Obi expressed surprise that Governor Makinde had reportedly not received a call from President Tinubu regarding the Oyo incident.

Reacting to the claims during a media interaction with journalists in Abuja on Thursday, Wike dismissed Obi’s comments, accusing him of turning issues into political matters.

The FCT Minister said he found it difficult to place value on Obi’s statements, alleging that the former governor had not demonstrated consistency in his positions.

Wike argued that in situations involving security challenges, state governors have the responsibility to immediately inform the President rather than waiting for the President to make the first move.

He maintained that if an incident occurs within a state, the governor should contact the President directly to provide updates and seek necessary support, stressing that such communication is part of effective security coordination.
