Full EFCC Charges Against Danladi Umar Finally Revealed

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned the former Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), Danladi Umar, before Justice U. P. Kekemeke of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama, Abuja, over allegations of fraud.

According to Ireporter Online, Umar was brought before the court on Thursday, July 9, on a four-count charge involving alleged abuse of office, nepotism, and conferring corrupt benefits upon himself amounting to ₦15,587,833.76.

The anti-graft agency alleged that while serving as Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal and head of its Tenders Board, Umar facilitated payments through contractors to bank accounts belonging to his wife, Zulaihatu Danladi Umar.

The prosecution claimed that one of the transactions occurred in October 2021, when ₦5.5 million was allegedly paid into his wife’s Keystone Bank account by Kurchmives International Limited, a subcontractor involved in a painting contract awarded by the tribunal.

The EFCC further alleged that in January 2024, another payment of ₦6 million was made into her Zenith Bank account by Portal Realities Limited, a sister company to JTF Global Links Limited, which had secured a contract for the digitalisation of the tribunal’s management records.

The Commission maintains that the transactions amounted to Umar using his official position to obtain unfair and corrupt advantages, an offence said to contravene the provisions of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000.

When the charges were read in court, the former CCT chairman pleaded not guilty to all four counts.

Following his plea, the presiding judge adjourned the case until July 15, 2026, to hear his bail application and ordered that he be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja pending further proceedings.
