Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has addressed the controversy surrounding his open endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term, stressing that his support stems from personal conviction rather than disloyalty to his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking at a rally in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, Governor Eno clarified that his decision was intentional and grounded in sincerity—not political opportunism.

“I don’t know how to speak from both sides of the mouth,” he said.

He criticized political figures who privately pledge allegiance to Tinubu but portray a different stance in public.

“The other day, I said I would support Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Some people asked why. Yet at night, they sneak to him and pledge support, only to act differently by day,” Eno remarked.

The governor declared his unwavering support for President Tinubu’s second term and hinted that the reasons for his stance would become clearer in due time.

“I am supporting Baba Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term. When the time is right, I’ll explain why. But for now, I’ll keep it to myself. There’s no point deceiving oneself.”

He suggested that Tinubu’s contributions to the development of Akwa Ibom would soon justify his backing.

“You’ll see what he’s doing in our state and understand why we should remain supportive. After his term, we can talk about supporting someone else.”

Despite his position, Governor Eno was firm that it does not equate to abandoning the PDP.

“Akwa Ibom is not known for inconsistency. My support doesn’t change the fact that I am a committed member of my party. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion,” he said.

During the event, Eno also received a major political endorsement as Senate President Godswill Akpabio publicly declared his support for the governor’s second-term ambition.
