The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) will convene an emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Thursday, October 13, to review recent developments, especially the positive response from the federal government to its demands.
This is coming after the union had directed its zonal branches to collate the views of members through vote during the meetings expected to hold on Wednesday, October 12, in its various zones across the country,
The outcome of the meeting would determine whether the eight-month-old industrial action will be suspended on Thursday or not.
ASUU president, Emmanuel Osodeke, while speaking on Tuesday, October 11, said that the strike was yet to be suspended.

Osodeke, however, stated that the union was working towards the suspension of the industrial action, adding that the action would be dependent on the views of members from the zonal meetings on Thursday.
The latest action of the union came following the intervention of the speaker of the house of representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila.
The speaker, on Monday, October 10, after a meeting with ASUU president and other stakeholders, assured the members of the union that the strike would be suspended very soon.
Gbajabiamila further noted that his meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari over the strike action was fruitful.
Recall that the lecturers, on February 14, 2022, embarked on the industrial action over the controversy on the adoption of the Integrated Personnel Payroll Information System (IPPIS) of the federal government as the payment system in the university sector, among other issues.
They had also condemned the poor funding of universities, non-payment of salaries and allowances of some of their colleagues, as well as the inability of the government to pay earned academic allowance to lecturers.
However, efforts to get the lecturers back to class have failed.
