Foreign exchange traders at the Lagos parallel market exchanged the United States dollar for as high as ₦1,406 and bought at ₦1,396 on June 20, 2026, reflecting the latest movement in the unofficial foreign exchange market.

Market sources familiar with Bureau De Change (BDC) activities indicated that the dollar maintained strong demand in the parallel market, with rates varying slightly across locations and traders depending on supply and market conditions.

Data obtained from currency dealers showed that the buying rate stood at ₦1,396 per dollar, while the selling rate was pegged at ₦1,406. The figures highlight the continued gap between rates obtainable in the unofficial market and those recorded within the official foreign exchange window.

Meanwhile, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has consistently maintained that it does not recognise transactions conducted in the parallel market. The apex bank has advised individuals and businesses seeking foreign exchange to utilise authorised banking channels and other approved financial institutions for their forex needs.

At the official market, the dollar traded within a range of ₦1,365 to ₦1,374, according to available market data. However, financial analysts noted that exchange rates may differ across markets and transactions, as forex prices are largely influenced by demand, supply, and prevailing economic conditions.

Stakeholders also cautioned that the actual rate at which individuals buy or sell foreign currency may vary from quoted figures due to fluctuations in market dynamics and regional differences among traders.
