Band Keeps Akiin Shuga’s Legacy Alive With Timeless Valentine Hits
According to Ireporter Online, Nigeria’s premier live music ensemble, Shuga Band, is marking a new chapter in its journey following the passing of its founder, Akiin Shuga. The band has unveiled a restructured management framework and released an exciting medley of classic tunes for the 2026 Valentine’s season.
The special release, which will be available on all digital streaming platforms from February 1st, 2026, features a blend of Nigerian and international classics. The band describes the offering as a tribute to its late founder and a signal that his legacy will continue to shape the group’s creative direction.
To strengthen its organizational foundation, Shuga Band has also established a board of trustees tasked with providing strategic guidance as the band navigates this new phase. The ensemble continues to enjoy robust demand from both longstanding and new premium clients, performing across a wide spectrum of genres including classical, contemporary, gospel, and African traditional music.
The band recently impressed audiences during a special Christmas live edition of Arise TV’s flagship program, This Morning, earning public endorsement from media mogul Prince Nduka Obaigbena, who pledged ongoing support for Shuga Band’s performances at his media group events.
Jerry Odeh, the band’s business manager, emphasized the commitment to sustaining the founder’s vision. “Our late founder, Akiin Shuga, ran so that we could fly. He established a culture of excellence that is woven into the very fabric of Shuga Band. With the guidance of our newly constituted board, we are well-equipped to honor his legacy and continue making him proud with every performance,” he said.
