Bimbo Akintola: Acting Alone Is Not Enough To Get Rich In Nigeria
According to Ireporter Online, veteran Nollywood actress Bimbo Akintola has shed light on why she does not live an extravagant lifestyle like some of her peers, stressing that acting alone does not generate the level of wealth many Nigerians assume.
The respected screen star made this known during a recent interview published on February 1, 2026, while responding to frequent public questions about her financial status and lifestyle after spending decades in the Nigerian film industry.
Akintola explained that there is a widespread misconception that popularity in Nollywood automatically translates to riches. She noted that earnings from movie platforms such as Africa Magic and similar outlets are far from sufficient to sustain luxury living or flashy lifestyles.
The actress further clarified that many entertainers who appear wealthy often have additional streams of income outside acting, a fact that is usually overlooked by the public. She added that when comparisons are made between her and colleagues who live lavishly, people rarely consider the other businesses or ventures those individuals may be involved in.
Drawing from her long experience in the industry, Akintola stated that many of the glamorous lifestyles displayed on social media cannot be justified by movie fees alone. She emphasized that there is a general misunderstanding of how money circulates within the entertainment sector, particularly for actors who rely solely on film roles as their primary source of income.
She maintained that acting, on its own, is rarely enough to make most actresses wealthy, given how modest payments from movie platforms are compared to public expectations.
