Imumolen Emerges As Accord Party Presidential Candidate For 2027

According to Ireporter Online, a faction of the Accord Party has formally announced Prof. Christopher Imumolen as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election following a consensus decision at its National Presidential Primary Election held in Lagos.

The party’s National Secretary, Muktar Abdullah, disclosed in a statement that Imumolen emerged through a unified consensus vote involving delegates drawn from across the country. He stated that the process reflected broad-based support from party stakeholders, members, and supporters nationwide.

Abdullah noted that the convention brought together delegates from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, who participated in selecting the party’s flagbearer. He further described Imumolen’s candidacy as widely supported within the party, particularly by younger members who reportedly view him as a symbol of renewed political leadership.

The statement also highlighted Imumolen’s background as an entrepreneur, philanthropist, and academic, adding that his experience and grassroots appeal position him as a strong contender ahead of the 2027 elections.

In his acceptance speech, Imumolen expressed appreciation to delegates for their confidence in him and pledged to run an inclusive and issue-based campaign. He confirmed that necessary documentation would be submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of its official publication of candidates.

He further promised that if elected, his administration would prioritize tackling unemployment, strengthening national security, and restructuring the economy to improve living standards and reduce poverty.

Meanwhile, the factional development comes amid ongoing internal disagreements within the Accord Party. Earlier reports indicated that another faction had announced Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim as its presidential candidate for the same election cycle. However, the party’s national leadership has dismissed that claim, stating that no valid primary produced such a nomination, thereby deepening the party’s internal dispute over its 2027 presidential ticket.
