Wike Stirs PDP: “Power Is Taken, Not Given” Ahead Of 2027 Race

According to Ireporter Online, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has cautioned the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against depending on chance as it prepares for the 2027 general elections.

Wike made the remarks during the PDP’s 109th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja on Wednesday, stressing that opposition politics requires strength, discipline, strong organisation, and firm determination. He maintained that political power is never freely given but must be actively pursued, adding that it demands sacrifice, resilience, and consistent effort to attain.

Drawing from his political experience, Wike urged aspirants not to be discouraged by intimidation, arrests, or legal battles, insisting that political victories are often achieved through perseverance in the face of adversity. He reiterated that “no one gives power freely,” noting that it must be struggled for, fought for, and earned without fear.

He also addressed ongoing internal disagreements and court cases within the party, expressing confidence that such challenges would not derail PDP’s preparations for future elections. According to him, the party remains focused and is not threatened by judicial processes, which he described as part of democratic engagement.

Wike further remarked that many politicians are struggling to adjust to being out of power after years of dominance, suggesting that the party must adopt a renewed mindset to regain political strength. He concluded that the PDP must overcome complacency and rebuild its structures if it hopes to compete effectively in 2027.
