Peter Obi Reacts To Viral Claim Over Military Salary Increase

Peter Obi has denied reports suggesting that he advised Nigerian military personnel to reject any salary increase until after the 2027 general elections.

According to Ireporter Online, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) dismissed the report as false and said his position had been misrepresented.

Obi made the clarification in a statement shared on his official X account on Tuesday, urging Nigerians to disregard the claim.

The former Anambra State governor said he had never called on soldiers or other military personnel to reject improved salaries, stressing that he had consistently advocated better welfare, adequate equipment and improved protection for members of the nation’s security forces.

Obi expressed particular appreciation for Nigerian Army personnel serving under difficult and dangerous conditions, saying his respect for the country’s security forces remained unwavering.

He also recalled his previous concerns about the loss of soldiers during security operations, particularly an incident in which he questioned why troops defending the country were allegedly left vulnerable when they needed support.

According to him, the welfare, safety and dignity of military personnel would remain a major priority if he is elected president in 2027.

Obi maintained that members of the armed forces deserve strong government support because of their role in protecting the nation and its citizens.

He therefore urged Nigerians to disregard the report linking him to a call for soldiers to reject salary increases, describing the claim as misleading.

The NDC candidate reaffirmed his commitment to presenting what he described as a clear and consistent agenda focused on building a more secure and prosperous Nigeria.
