Oshoala Fires Warning Ahead Of South Africa Clash: Super Falcons Must Qualify

Super Falcons star Asisat Oshoala has urged her teammates to fight relentlessly for a place at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, stressing that Nigeria cannot afford another major international setback after the Super Eagles failed to qualify for the 2026 tournament.

According to IREPORTERONLINE, Oshoala made the appeal following the Super Falcons’ 1-0 defeat to Cameroon in the quarter-final of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday.

The defeat ended Nigeria’s hopes of securing automatic qualification for the 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil, forcing the nine-time African champions to pursue qualification through the play-in route.

The Super Falcons are now set to face South Africa at the Moulay Rachid Stadium in Casablanca on Thursday, with the decisive encounter scheduled to begin at 9pm Nigerian time.

Oshoala, who has vast experience representing Nigeria on the international stage, urged Nigerians to give the team their full support as they battle to keep their World Cup ambitions alive.

She emphasised that the World Cup ticket is now the priority and called on supporters to rally behind the players during the crucial qualification campaign.

Nigeria’s situation mirrors that of South Africa, who also lost their quarter-final encounter, suffering a 2-1 defeat to hosts Morocco and consequently missing out on automatic qualification.

Banyana Banyana must now defeat Nigeria to advance to the inter-confederation play-offs and preserve their hopes of featuring at the global tournament.

South Africa defender Lebohang Ramalepe has equally urged her teammates to remain mentally strong ahead of the high-stakes encounter.

Ramalepe stressed that despite their defeat to Morocco, their World Cup dream remains alive and the players must approach the clash with determination and a positive mindset.
